Approach to learning
The school states it pursues “excellence in education through quality touch”, holding that therapeutic communication together with knowledge of the body and presence is what makes a session healing rather than merely a massage.

The programme is assembled from individual classes, so pace varies: the school publishes fifteen months full time to about two years part time, in ten-week quarters, with most classes meeting once a week for three hours.
Electives are typically scheduled at weekends or as occasional weekday classes.
Because the programme is built from individual classes, individual courses may be paid for separately.
Alongside the core sciences and Swedish massage, the curriculum includes an introduction to shiatsu, palpation, hydrotherapy, communication and ethics and business fundamentals, with 85 elective hours and 34 Advanced Practice Skills hours. A 45-hour Swedish clinic is required.

Costs and funding
Published tuition for the 640-hour certificate is $13,995, with a $25 non-refundable application fee and a $150 registration fee against which an early-registration discount of $25 is offered. ABMP student massage liability insurance for twelve months has been free since 2017.
Estimated costs outside tuition, at the school's retail prices if bought new: about $700 of required textbooks, about $500 for a professional table, about $565 of supplies and study aids, and about $620 of Oregon licensing application fees after graduation.
The school states that “OSM does not currently process FAFSA applications for Federal Financial Aid, Grants, and scholarships.”
In place of federal aid the school publishes its own routes: payment in full at $13,995, which includes a massage table package valued up to $500 and protects against later tuition increases; an interest-free monthly plan over 18 or 24 months with a $75 processing fee and a deposit from $500; a fixed 5 per cent loan over 36 to 60 months with a $150 processing fee; or quarterly payment at registration, where the amount moves with the classes chosen.
