Structural Integration is a generic professional field of manual and movement-based bodywork concerned with patterns of structure, function, posture, movement, and perception. Rolfing® Structural Integration is a protected named lineage within that broader field, not a generic label for all Structural Integration.

How it is practiced and taught

Practice varies across schools and may use series-based planning, soft-tissue contact, movement education, standing or walking observation, and client awareness. Pressure ranges from gentle to intense and must remain consensual, tolerable, and condition-appropriate.

Generic Structural Integration, Rolfing®, Hellerwork®, deep tissue massage, and neuromuscular therapy remain distinct identities. Claims of permanent realignment, postural correction, emotional release, or body-wide clinical change are not established by the limited evidence.
